Pursuing Justice Throughout Georgia

A Multi-Generational Commitment To Justice

At The Ransom Firm, our edge lies in our experience. Both Philip and Damany grew up steeped in the legal world, guided by fathers and grandfathers who were respected in the law and general community for their leadership. They are part of a four-generation tradition of legal careers in their family.

Freeman B. Ransom (a/k/a F.B.) studied law at the School of Law at Columbia University and finished in 1910. After law school, he started his own firm. He managed the Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company and was featured in the 2020 Netflix miniseries “Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker.”  In addition, he was a legal consultant for the NAACP.

Willard Ransom graduated Harvard Law School in 1939, as the only African American in his graduating class. After serving in the army during WWII, he returned to Indianapolis to work as an attorney and civic activist. He managed Walker’s company after Freeman passed. He also was heavily engaged in civil rights and politics, serving as president of the Indiana Chapter of the NAACP, working as the first African-American director of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, and serving as Indiana’s assistant attorney general.  He also worked with Thurgood Marshall to draft the Indiana school desegregation law.

During Freeman and Willard’s lifetimes, the family lived in segregated downtown Indianapolis in what is now known as the Ransom Place Historic District.  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Philip F. Ransom has an extensive background as a business lawyer and advisor, both in private practice and as general counsel – including as executive vice president of multiplatinum record company So So Def Recordings, Inc.

Damany F. Ransom has over 20 years of experience. He has worked as a federal judicial law clerk and as a partner at one of the country’s largest law firms, where he spent years defending high-stakes personal injury, product liability and commercial litigation cases for corporate defendants. He now leverages those experiences to fight for what is right – rectifying unfair business dealings and obtaining just compensation for accident victims and their families. He fights for justice.
